Old Forge, New York | Adirondacks, New York Intimate Wedding | Dani T Photography
Tucked away on the other side of First Lake in the Adirondack Mountains is one of the sweetest air b& b’s. It is surrounded by beautiful fall foliage, and just a short distance from the lawn is the dock that over looks the lake with a view of the mountains off into the distance.
Jake and Alison had originally planned for a larger gathering with their family and friends for their wedding day, but due to the current state of world, they decided for a small ceremony, to still marry each other on their original wedding day.
While their parents helped them each get ready, their closest family helped put the ceremony space together, along with Jake making sure it was all just perfect, and getting the dinner tables ready, and brought out the most delicious donuts from the Inlet, New York Bakery.
Jake waited anxiously for his bride, Alison, to be walked down the isle by her mother, to greet her with a small little wave of hello. Cue all the tears from me! After some family members read some passages, and blessings, Alison and Jake said I do to each other under the most decorative arbor, which Jake built himself for their wedding day.
When the ceremony was finished, the new Mr. & Mrs. had their first dance surrounded by their guests, shared a donut and we were off to chase the sunset on a local mountain top! We reached the summit, and were greeted with the most stunning pink hazey skies, which soon turned to the most epic colors. Next to the fall foliage, it was like we were on another planet!
Alison & Jake, will be celebrating with a larger group of family and friends this coming year at their original wedding venue, so stay tuned for more epic wedding goodness! So let’s pop the bubbly, which we literally popped and I ended up being covered in, totally worth it, and hear more from the happy couple!
WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE PART OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?
ALISON : “I think for me, the most memorable part of the day was in the car on the way to the mountain trailhead realizing that we were actually married and sharing a few moments of excitement before our hike.”
JAKE: “The most memorable parts of the day were reciting vows during the ceremony, almost getting blown down stream in the canoe, and the perfect sunset on the mountain top.”
ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES?
ALISON : “Marry your best friend.. that way when literally nothing goes as planned, it’s still the perfect day.”
JAKE: “Don’t sweat any small things that don’t go exactly to plan. They either make a great story or you forget that they happened. So many highlights from the day make you forget anything that wasn’t perfect.”
IF YOU HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING?
ALISON: “Remember a recessional song even if it’s a super informal ceremony! It’s super awkward when the ceremony is over and nobody knows what to do.”
JAKE: “I would have thought about how we wanted our first dance to go a bit more. We didn’t put as much pressure on preparing for it since it wouldn’t be in a more formal setting, but it still felt a little awkward in front of only a few people.”
WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR HONEYMOON?
”We did a mini-moon in Lake Placid and then Acadia National Park, and stopped at lots of local breweries along the way. Our original honeymoon to South Africa was postponed to this year, hopefully!”
WHAT SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT YOUR INTIMATE WEDDING/ELOPMENT DAY?
ALISON: “Watching my future husband and father in law measure the distance between each chair so they were aesthetically perfect. It took longer than expected to set up, but they were in fact perfect.”
JAKE : “Getting in a canoe for post-ceremony pictures. I didn’t expect to be paddling at all that day.”
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE AN ELOPEMENT/INITMATE WEDDING WAS RIGHT FOR YOU?
”COVID-19 kinda forced our hand a bit, so it was either an intimate wedding or just postpone. We ended up doing both! We postponed our larger wedding but we didn’t want to wait to be married anymore! So we chose something that was the complete opposite of what we were originally planning and it was like a dream. We are however still really looking forward to being able to celebrate with all our friends and family!”
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?
”Hire Dani as your photographer! She is like another best friend with you while capturing priceless moments. Also she is so willing and excited to make anything you want happen, even when you accidently spray her with prosecco!”
